And the nominees are...
Tuesday, January 31, 2006

Who said the Oscars were boring and predictable? I'm still shocked by some of their choices. Let's do a couple of lists [you know I have a thing for them ^^]:

Happy for...

- Brokeback Mountain's 8 nominations. All of them are highly deserved.
- Felicity Huffman. Oh god, she's adorable.
- Reese and Joaquin.
- Dolly Parton for Best Original Song.
- Amy Adams. Junebug is a very, very small film, but Amy's enormous talent didn't go unnoticed.
- Matt Dillon. Tell he isn't hot.
- Rachel Weisz.
- Corpse Bride for Best Animated Feature.
- Woody Allen's 21st [!!!] nomination.

Oh, surprise!...

- All of the films nominated for Best Picture were made for less than $75 million.
- Munich and Capote getting in for Best Picture AND Director.
- Scarlett Johansson being snubbed... AGAIN!!!
- Howl's Moving Castle over more popular, big studio films like Chicken Little or Madagascar. Miyazaki is a damn genius.
- Keira Knightley instead of Ziyi Zhang, Joan Allen or Gwyneth Paltrow.
- William Hurt getting his first nomination in nearly twenty years.
- Woody Allen snubbed in Director for his excellent Match Point.
- Memoirs of a Geisha being this year's Evita. Well, this is not that surprising.
- Only three contenders up for Best Original Song.
- 14 [!!!] actors had never been nominated before.

As you can see I'm allowing comments again. Feel free to drop me a line about my new template, my sick obsession with Ang Lee's latest film or how much you love reading this shitty blog. Enjoy.
